Following the campaign process, it was time to set the stage for the big moment: the election speeches. Nervous feelings filled their stomachs as they waited anxiously for their turn to arrive that would carry them to the front of the classroom ready to deliver their speech. They hid their true feelings very well as they spoke with clear and confident voices sharing how they would be the best candidate for classroom president. It has all been exciting and fun! The results of this campaign, you ask? The vote has been taken and counted. The president of Miss Coon's class 2015 is Michaela. Her vice president is Emma. Congratulations to those hired for office and fantastic job to all third graders! Everyone worked very hard! | Yesterday and today we held an election in our classroom for a student president to lead our meetings. The students have worked hard writing convincing speeches to persuade their peers why they are the best candidate for the job. They began the campaign process and created posters that caught their friends attention. The marched around the classroom walking around telling people to vote for them! Check out the video to the left of their campaign in action. From convincing their friends through lofty promises to even bringing in cupcakes to focus their attention on one candidate, these students really know what it means to campaign. |

Estimating: making your best guess with a good reason for it
So, why did we do this activity? Why should we know how to estimate? Comment below 3rd Graders!
What are you learning, 3rd graders, in the space unit? Use your morning work time to comment here or comment from home as you do research! This year I have learned a lot about the space station that some astronauts live on for long periods of time. It is so interesting to see the different things they can do while living in space! I included the video that we watched in class this week. I also think it is neat that on a clear night you can see the space station orbiting the earth. Wasn't it interesting to learn from Jordan's book that animals have been taken to space too?! So, what are your thoughts? What have you been learning about space? Questions about Halloween have been popping up under the election topics. Hmmm…interesting. I thought it would be fun to talk about those things, so share your ideas and ask questions right here! :) What is your favorite memory from Halloween? What are you dressing up as for Halloween? And of course the big question: What is Miss Coon dressing up as this year? What do you think? In class, we have just started discussing the process of election and how it works. When the topic of Democrats and Republicans came up, we really couldn't figure out how to define them. So I did some research and here is a site on Scholastic that really helps with the explanation. Click on the image to visit the site. Today we had the privilege of having Miss LeClair, a Deaf Ed student teacher from Illinois State University, join our classroom and sign a book to us. The students loved watching as she shared different words and sayings to us and even taught us how to say some things. We got to trace our hands on paper and make the "I Love You" sign to take home and give to someone we love. Thank you so much Miss LeClair for visiting our class! You are a wonderful teacher. In our studies of the United States and the amazing features of our country, a student in my class had a question about how Mount Rushmore was made. I encouraged him to go home and research and I would do the same. This is a great question and it has quite an intriguing answer. Click here to follow the link and read about what I found. |
Meet Mrs. PriceI love to learn new things! One great place to learn is by spending time in nature and the outdoors with my husband, David! Any opportunity that we can get to take a bike ride, hike, or walk we will take it! I also love music and enjoy playing my flute at church and singing. I also love learning with kids. My passion is to join children as they inquire, and teach them to cultivate their love for learning about this incredible world. Let's get started! CategoriesArchives
