My classroom is set up and ready for the students to come and inquire and learn a lot in 3rd grade.  This is a picture of the classroom library where the students will be checking out books to read during the day and for homework.  We will also have our reading and writing mini-lessons in this area of the classroom.

Everyday when the students come into the classroom, they will be able to see what book that I am reading. I want them to see that I love to read and I want them to be as excited about reading as well!

Each student has a book box that they fill each morning with "Just Right" books. During reading workshop, they will take their book box with them for independent reading time. Their binders are also in their boxes where they will write about what they are reading each day.

Right when the students enter the classroom, they will choose the lunch card out of the green chart on the left. Then they will put it in the appropriate pocket to the right.  One of my classroom jobs is for a student to collect those lunch cards and bring them to me once everyone is here for the day.

This is our student supply station where they will be able to find extra materials throughout the day.  There is a basket of sticky notes for them to use at any time during the day to ask me a question that I can't answer right at that moment.

Right next to the computers, I have an extra materials cart where I store the scrap paper, crayons, highlighters, colored pencils, markers, and calculators. These roll away storage containers are great to use for station materials and are really easy to move to different areas of the room.

This is my transportation chart that will have the students names clothes-pinned to their mode of transportation getting them home from school.  This is helpful because if there is a change, I can easily move their clothespin to the correct circle at anytime throughout the year.

Students will chart their daily behavior using this clip chart with their names on individual clothespins.  There are six "strike" levels on the chart.  If the student does not have any behavior problems throughout the day, their name will stay at the top where it says, "I'm having an I-Care day!" Our school follows the I-Care rules which are:
1) We listen to each other
2) Hands are for helping, not hurting
3) We use I-Care language
4) We care about each other's feelings
5) We are responsible for what we say and do

Picture
This Popsicle stick container hangs on the board in the front of the classroom.  I have the student's names each on their own stick so that during a lesson, I can pull a stick when I need to call on someone.  Once I have called on a student, their stick will be set aside on the ledge of the board until I have called on all the students and then refill the container to start again!

    Meet Miss Coon

I love to learn new things! One great place to learn is by spending time in nature and the outdoors! Any opportunity that I can get to take a bike ride, hike, or walk I will gladly do it! I also love music and enjoy playing my flute at church and singing with my sisters. But most of all, I love kids.  My passion is to teach children to inquire, and to love learning about this incredible world as I do. My students tend to think I love to learn just because I am a teacher. By modeling the struggle of learning and researching my own interests, I hope my students and others can follow my example and be empowered to seek after their questions to find answers in the midst of the struggle.
