| Once the chicks have hatched and have had a bit of time to rest inside the incubator, they are ready to be transferred to the brooder box. The brooder box is a box or bin for the chicks to live in until they are big enough to join the grown up hens and roosters at the farm in the chicken coop. Inside the brooder box is bedding covering the bottom. That easily absorbs any waste from the chicks -they are very messy! There is also a bowl of corn feed as well as a water bowl. The water bowl has rocks in it in case the chicks fall asleep near the water bowl. This will keep them from drowning. Check out the video to the left to see how I move the chicks from the incubator to the brooder box! Enjoy the photo slideshow below as well! |

Braxton would like to know if egg #2 and #4 hatched? He was curious since their membrane was cracked.

Great question Braxton!! Egg #2 did hatch!! 🎉 But egg #4 didn’t have any evidence of starting to hatch, neither did egg #17. Egg #11 started to hatch, but didn’t make it. Eggs #8 and #19 are still working and trying to hatch! I can hear their chirping!

OMG your students chicks hatched. I miss doing that because our class a least was going to do chicks but now I don't think that we will be doing that any more. But I don't know completely so fingers crossed.

They look so fun. I always love watching the chicks hatch and how they use their beaks and legs to get out of the shell. Sounds like you are having a great batch this year. Love the pictures and videos.

Hey Nathan! So great to hear from you! It has been fun being able to post about the chicks especially since my class this year can’t see them in person. I am thankful for technology! How is your year going?

Meet Mrs. PriceI love to learn new things! One great place to learn is by spending time in nature and the outdoors with my husband, David! Any opportunity that we can get to take a bike ride, hike, or walk we will take it! I also love music and enjoy playing my flute at church and singing. I also love learning with kids. My passion is to join children as they inquire, and teach them to cultivate their love for learning about this incredible world. Let's get started! CategoriesArchives
